Minister of Interior Ivan Demerdzhiev reported a decline in the number of illegal migrants in the country. He made these remarks during a parliamentary question session in the Committee on Internal Security and Public Order, while responding to a question from Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) MP Kalin Stoyanov regarding a potential increase in migration flows toward Western Europe due to the conflict in Iran.

"The route that passes through our border with Turkey, as well as the Greek border with Turkey, is one of the best-guarded routes," the Minister pointed out. Demerdzhiev assured that the services are constantly monitoring developments and incoming intelligence related to events in Iran, and are prepared to react. He added that efforts are also underway to provide additional technical security for the border.

The ministry's goal is for the Bulgarian-Turkish border to become a model and benchmark for a land border, and for the maritime border to be technically secured as well. The Minister emphasized his belief that a minimum standard for the protection of external borders should be introduced throughout the entire European Union.
