Inspectors have pulled 22 illegal gill nets, 1,100 metres long in all, from Mandra reservoir and Vaya lake, the Burgas office of the Executive Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture (IARA) said. The nets held 800 kg of fish, which the inspectors released alive into the water.
The checks began at Mandra. The team found 10 gill nets, 500 metres long in all, with 300 kg of carp in them. Inspectors seized the nets on the spot and put the fish back in the reservoir in good condition.
Later in the day, a patrol boat toured Vaya, the lake near Burgas, and inspectors found another case of poaching. They pulled 12 nets, 600 metres long in all, from the water, with 500 kg of Prussian carp in them. This fish was also released.
Checks on illegal fishing in Burgas waters continue. The aim is to prevent damage to the local ecosystem.
