Inflation in Bulgaria is slowing down: What do the NSI data for June show?
Annual inflation in the country marked a significant drop, reaching 5.4% in June, which is a decrease of 1.5 percentage points compared to the previous month of May (6.9%). On a monthly basis, the NSI reports deflation of 0.9%, which is a signal of easing price pressure.
For the first time since September 2025, the country registered monthly deflation, which indicates a change in the dynamics of consumer prices.
Which goods became cheaper?
The most noticeable drop in prices is observed in seasonal vegetables:
- Cucumbers: -25.8%
- Zucchini and eggplants: -25.7%
- Peppers: -20.9%
- Tomatoes: -20.2%
- Cabbage: -15%
- Potatoes: -10.5%
A decrease was also recorded in the sectors of "Transport" (-3.3%), "Food products" (-1.9%), and "Clothing and footwear" (-1.1%).
Where are price increases observed?
Despite the general trend toward deflation, some sectors recorded price growth:
- Restaurant and hotel services: +1.5%
- Educational services: +0.5%
- Healthcare: +0.2%
- Housing, water, and energy: +0.1%
According to the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), used for comparison in the EU, annual inflation in Bulgaria is 5.2%, with reported monthly deflation of 0.5%.
