Caretaker governments in Bulgaria are now used to manipulate elections, says former caretaker prime minister Reneta Indzhova. She made the remarks in a radio interview.
She says caretaker cabinets also hide the wrongs of earlier governments and undermine parliamentary democracy.
Speaking about the 2020 protests, Indzhova said every fight against corruption brings an even harsher backlash from the mafia, which emerges from it stronger.
Indzhova claims Bulgaria lacks a social base on purpose. She said an attempt to build a middle class was made, but it was destroyed. The budget can only be predatory and parasitic, she says, because Bulgarian capitalists take it for themselves.
Indzhova also described a phenomenon she calls anticipated submission. In her view, it is not servile but psychological.
She called herself perhaps the last of the classic type of statesman and politician. Her political career ended as early as 1990, Indzhova said.
