President Iliana Iotova will task the candidate for caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov with forming a government, the press secretariat of the head of state announced.
Yesterday, the head of state nominated the Deputy Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) Andrey Gyurov for caretaker Prime Minister. Today, from 10:00 a.m., President Iotova will receive Gyurov at “Dondukov” 2.
According to the BNB Act, in the event that the Governor or Deputy Governor has explicitly expressed consent to be appointed as caretaker Prime Minister, he shall resign.
Fair elections can be held when a caretaker government does not interfere in the political arena, is sufficiently neutral, and works only within the powers given to it by the Constitution, Andrey Gyurov said after his conversation with Iliana Iotova in January.
At the end of January, Iliana Iotova met with all potential caretaker prime ministers, whose positions are listed in the Constitution. Five of them expressed willingness to take the post - Andrey Gyurov, Deputy Ombudsman Maria Filipova, the Chairman of the Audit Office Dimitar Glavchev, as well as the Deputy Chairmen of the Audit Office Margarita Nikolova and Silvia Kadreva.
According to the Constitution, after consultations with the parliamentary groups and on the proposal of the candidate for caretaker Prime Minister, the President appoints a caretaker government and sets elections within two months.
Last week, the President stated that she and her team will do everything possible for the elections to be on the first date after the Easter holidays. The first Sunday after Easter is April 19.
