Today will be marked by significant transport disruption on the route to Greece. The road through the border crossing point "Makaza" will be closed for two hours - from 10:00 to 12:00, reported Mayor Shinasi Suleyman to regional media.
The initiator of the protest action is Todor Batkov Jr., who has sent official notifications to the local administration, law enforcement agencies, Road Infrastructure Agency, and Border Police. The main demand of the demonstrators is a complete and unconditional opening of the interstate border between Bulgaria and Greece.
Suleyman categorically expressed his disagreement with such actions, emphasizing that the blockade will disrupt the normal movement of tourists. "The protest should not hinder ordinary citizens," he was adamant.
The local authorities proposed an alternative gathering place - the central square of Kirkovo, but the organizers insist on a complete stop of traffic in both directions. All vehicles will be affected by the temporary interruption.
According to the mayor's statements, law enforcement agencies are ready to prevent possible riots. At the same time, it was emphasized that there is no alternative route for crossing to the neighboring country.
