Deputy Finance Minister Lyudmila Petkova has proposed raising food vouchers from 102 to 200 euros per month. The idea is part of a plan to increase the annual voucher quota, which would grow from the current 818 million euros to 1.5 billion euros. This is set out in the 2026 State Budget Act of the Republic of Bulgaria.
If the proposal is approved and the cap rises to 200 euros, after applying a 7% tax rate, workers would actually take home 186 euros a month. In other words, the net value of the vouchers would jump by 84 euros — an increase of about 82% compared with the current maximum of 102 euros.
The vouchers remain exempt from social security contributions. They will be taxed at 7% — lower than the standard rate of 10%.
