The large forest fire that threatened three villages in the vicinity of Kardzhali yesterday has been successfully extinguished after an intensive battle by firefighters and local authorities. The incident, which caused serious concern among the region's residents, ended without the need for mass evacuation.

According to information from local authorities, only a few residents left their homes preventively for a short period last night. "Everyone has already returned to their homes and the situation is under control", a municipality spokesperson announced.

Despite the successful containment of the fire, the damage is significant. The fire has destroyed approximately 500 decares of mixed forest and low vegetation, which will have a long-term impact on the local ecosystem.

The Governor of Kardzhali expressed concern about the cause of the fire. "There are grounds to believe that human negligence may be at the root of this incident", he stated to journalists. This information underscores the need for increased attention and adherence to fire safety measures, especially during the dry summer months.

Although the main danger has passed, the authorities remain vigilant. Duty teams continue to patrol the affected area to monitor for possible new outbreaks. This precautionary measure is critical, as smoldering embers or sudden gusts of wind can lead to reignition of the fire.

The case has drawn attention to the importance of preparedness for dealing with natural disasters and the need for investments in firefighting equipment and training. Local authorities urge citizens to be particularly careful during outdoor activities and to report any signs of fire immediately.
