The German film "The Hero of Friedrichstrasse Station" screens tonight at 7pm in the Toncho Rusev hall of the NHK Culture Centre in Burgas. It is part of this year's Cinelibri festival.
The comedy drama is based on the novel of the same name by Maxim Leo. Wolfgang Becker and Achim von Borries directed it, and Constantin Lieb and Wolfgang Becker wrote the script. The cast includes Charly Hübner, Christiane Paul, Leon Ullrich, Leonie Benesch, Daniel Brühl and Thorsten Merten.
The main character runs a video rental shop and is close to bankruptcy. For the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, a journalist presents him as the mastermind of the biggest mass escape from East Germany. The media interest drags him into half-truths and lies.
This year the film won the Ernst Lubitsch Award for directing and received three nominations from the German Film Academy. It will be shown in German with Bulgarian subtitles.
On 30 October we reported that the dance group The Roosters will stage the show "The Father of Burgas" on 21 November at 7pm in the hall of the NHK Culture Centre.
The Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Tourism, the National Film Centre, the National Culture Fund, the Burgas municipal Culture Fund and the Creative Europe – MEDIA programme back the project.
