Arguing that participation would be "the greatest favor we could do for Iliana Iotova," GERB leader Boyko Borissov has spoken out against running a candidate in the upcoming election on October 25, 2026. Speaking to journalists in Arbanasi, he pointed out that at this moment, none of the parliamentary forces, not even "Progressive Bulgaria," which won the last elections, has announced its contender for head of state.

The official decision of the GERB Executive Commission, announced today by the party's press office, confirmed that the party will not nominate its own presidential and vice-presidential ticket. These considerations by the commission fully align with the positions stated by Borissov in the days leading up to the meeting.

During these internal party discussions, which Borissov informed about earlier, the possibility of GERB participating in the election with its own representative and who that might be was considered. Ultimately, however, the party chairman's personal opinion that such a move would be counterproductive for the political entity prevailed.
