The conflict between GERB and the Ministry of Interior
Political tension has escalated after GERB-UDF officially announced that they will sue Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev. The reason for the threat was the minister's claims that former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov is linked to public procurement contracts for road guardrails.
"From the moment he became Interior Minister, he must speak with facts and evidence, not with assumptions," stated Toma Bikov to journalists in the National Assembly.
Key highlights of the GERB position
- Demand for facts: Bikov emphasized that Demerdzhiev is no longer a lawyer and must support his words with evidence.
- List of audits: GERB is insisting on an audit of all prime ministers from recent years, including Stefan Yanev, Kiril Petkov, Dimitar Glavchev, Nikolay Denkov, and Rosen Zhelyazkov.
- The question regarding the President: The deputies also questioned the role of Rumen Radev, asking if he had an "arrangement" with Borisov, given how the state was managed during that period.
Borisov's party reminded that the minister remains silent on a number of other significant topics such as "Petrohan" and "Botas," which, according to them, is an attempt to divert attention from the real issues.
