Georgi Milkov, a journalist, writer and traveller, and Tanya Mihaylova, head of the Diplomatic Institute at the foreign ministry, will present their book "The Libyan Case: All Diplomatic Means" in Burgas today. The event starts at 6pm at Primorets and is part of the Port Prim Art Fest programme.
The book traces the efforts to free the five Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor who were sentenced to death in Libya. The case dragged on for eight years, through the terms of presidents Petar Stoyanov and Georgi Parvanov and the governments of Ivan Kostov, Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha and Sergei Stanishev.
"The book is a collection of interviews with senior diplomats and people who took part in the effort to save the Bulgarian nurses," Milkov told Bulgarian National Radio.
The second part contains the foreign ministry's declassified archive and its correspondence with the Bulgarian embassies in Tripoli and elsewhere that worked on the case.
At the event, Milkov and Mihaylova will talk about what went on behind the scenes in international diplomacy. Visitors can ask questions and get autographs. Entry is free.
