Less than 12 hours after the Eurovision 2026 final in Vienna, it is clear: the show went down in history as Bulgaria's first outright victory and as one of the most dynamic editions in terms of "jury vs. public". DARA with "Bangaranga" did not just take the crystal microphone – she led by a comfortable margin in both the viewer vote and the final total ranking.
Top 10: which countries dominated the evening
The final of the 70th edition of Eurovision took place on May 16th at Vienna's "Wiener Stadthalle", where 25 countries fought for the attention of the jury and the public.
Official results placed Bulgaria convincingly in first place with a total of 516 points for "Bangaranga" performed by DARA.
The final top 10 looks like this:
1. Bulgaria – "DARA – Bangaranga" – 516 pts.
2. Israel – "Noam Bettan – Michelle" – 343 pts.
3. Romania – "Alexandra Capitaneșcu – Choke Me" – 296 pts.
4. Australia – "Delta Goodrem – Eclipse" – 287 pts.
5. Italy – "Sal Da Vinci – Per sempre sì" – 281 pts.
6. Finland – "Linda Lampenius & Pete Parkkonen – Liekinheitin" – 279 pts.
7. Denmark – "Søren Torpegaard Lund – Før vi går hjem" – 243 pts.
8. Moldova – "Satoshi – Viva, Moldova!" – 226 pts.
9. Ukraine – "Leleka – Ridnym" – 221 pts.
10. Greece – "Akylas – Ferto" – 220 pts.
The Bulgarian breakthrough: how DARA won the race
Bulgaria entered the final as one of the bookmakers' favorites, but the real dominance of "Bangaranga" was only seen the moment the points were announced.
DARA combined a massive viewer vote – 312 points from televoting – with strong support from the professional juries (204 points), which brought in a record 516 total points.
In our national selection, she had already shown a similar picture: in the online vote for the Bulgarian representative, "Bangaranga" gathered over 88% of the votes, leaving the other two songs in the selection far behind.
The performance in Vienna – in the middle of the evening, at number 12 – relied on a clearly recognizable pop sound, a strong hook, and a stage setup that played with the energy of the live audience rather than relying on complex visual effects.
Jury vs. Public: where the votes diverged
As often happens in recent years, the final ranking was seriously shaken by the viewer vote, which in some places completely overturned the order after the juries.
Romania is the clearest example: Alexandra Capitaneșcu's "Choke Me" received a modest 64 points from the jury, but 232 from the televote – the viewers placed her in second place, which shot the country to a final third place.
Israeli representative Noam Bettan with "Michelle" received more balanced support: 123 points from the jury and 220 from the viewers, which cemented him in second place in the overall standings.
Ukraine with LELÉKA – "Ridnym" was also strongly supported by the fans: 167 points from the public versus 54 from the juries, which brought a total of 221 points and ninth place.
At the bottom, the contrast was even sharper: the representatives of Belgium, Germany, and Great Britain did not receive a single point from the viewer vote – 0 points from the televote – regardless of moderate support from some of the juries.
Incidents, gaffes, and moments that will be talked about
The final in Vienna did not pass without controversial moments, although the technical aspect of the show was top-notch.
One of the most discussed issues was the discrepancy between expectations and reality for some of the big bookmaker favorites like Finland and Australia, who remained out of the top 3 despite strong performances and high pre-contest odds.
A significant topic on social media was also the televoting for the countries of the "Big Five" and the host country: France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Austria again received relatively modest support from the public, with the exception of Italy, which managed to stay in the top 5.
Despite the absence of major technical failures, viewers noticed a momentary loss of connection with the studio in one of the Scandinavian countries during the announcement of the points – a situation that was quickly handled by the hosts, but inevitably entered the "Eurovision gaffes" collages.
Statistics: how 35 countries and "The Rest of the World" determined the winner
All 35 participating countries took part in the voting, as well as the "Rest of the World" category, which adds a global viewer vote outside of Europe and associated countries.
Each country forms two separate rankings – that of the national jury and that of the television viewers – and distributes points according to the standard 12, 10, 8-1 scheme.
The crystal microphone went to Bulgaria after the sum calculation of all 36 "packets" of points – from juries, viewers, and the "Rest of the World".
Especially telling is the fact that DARA won both the viewer vote and remained among the top two in jury points – a rare combination in recent years, which almost always guarantees the title.
Predictions: what the victory means for Bulgaria and Eurovision 2027
With DARA's victory, Bulgaria becomes the host of Eurovision 2027 – a historic moment for the country and a serious organizational challenge for BNT and state institutions.
Early discussions are already revolving around potential host cities – Sofia seems the natural choice because of the infrastructure and experience with major events, but proposals for Plovdiv or Varna as "more unconventional" stages are not excluded.
From the point of view of trends, the 2026 contest confirmed several lines: a mix of modern pop production with clearly recognizable hooks, a strong visual identity, and a skillful balance between national color and global sound.
In a broader sense, Bulgaria's success, the strong performance of Israel, Romania, and Australia, and the rise of viewer favorites like Ukraine suggest that the 2027 race will be even more fierce – not only on stage, but behind the scenes, in the studios, and in the national selections.
For now, however, one thing is clear: the morning of May 17 begins with a new reality for Bulgarian Eurovision fans – after years of "almost", "top 5", and "fan favorite", Bulgaria finally holds the crystal microphone, and the expectations for the next host contest are higher than ever.
