A spectator at an off-road competition in the Rhodope village of Smilyan has sustained severe injuries after being hit by a jeep-type racing vehicle. The incident was confirmed by the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Smolyan.
The victim is a 64-year-old man whose life is in danger. He was transported by helicopter to the "St. George" University Hospital in Plovdiv.
According to initial information, the jeep went off the designated track and ran over the man, who was watching the race. It turns out his son was among the participants. Details were revealed by the director of the police in Smolyan.
Senior Commissioner Pachedzhiev clarified that the event was not under the control of law enforcement authorities. "The competition was held on private property and was not guarded by law enforcement. We were only notified of its taking place. An ambulance transported the injured man to the hospital in Smolyan," he said.
The man sustained multiple injuries as a result of the impact. Subsequently, emergency air transport to a more specialized medical facility in Plovdiv was required.
