Drone incident at the Bulgarian border
This morning at 8:10 a.m., an unidentified drone entered Bulgarian airspace, Prime Minister Rumen Radev announced after convening an emergency Security Council at the Council of Ministers.
"There are no casualties or damage to buildings, and the area has been cordoned off. We continue to monitor the situation," Radev assured.
Details of the incident
The drone was detected near a compressor station, about 200 meters from the former border crossing point with Romania. The noise from the aircraft was first registered by the Romanian "Border Police," followed by a loud explosion.
Security measures
- Investigation: The Ministry of Defense and the "Border Police" are working on the ground to establish the origin and type of the drone.
- Security: The area has been cordoned off, and authorities have confirmed that there is no danger to infrastructure.
- Redeployment of resources: Forces and equipment for counter-drone operations are to be relocated from the Turkish to the Romanian border.
The Prime Minister clarified that the object had not been detected by the Combined Air Operations Center in Torrejon and that Bulgaria is strengthening radar coverage in the region.
