DPS lawmakers will submit changes to the Excise Duties and Tax Warehouses Act to stop a 1,000-euro fine for keeping homemade rakia. DPS MP Atidzhe Alieva announced this on Facebook.
The fine forms part of changes to Article 100 of the law, drafted by Democratic Bulgaria and the finance ministry. The draft has been open for public comment since September 23. The fine would hit anyone who keeps homemade rakia without belonging to the family that made it.
Bulgarians have made and drunk rakia for generations, and today that tradition has turned into a main way of filling the state coffers, Alieva says in her post.
