The volunteer initiative “Clean Christmas” will be held for the eighth consecutive year between the Christmas and New Year holidays, announce the organizers from LessPlastic Bulgaria, the surf school “Akasha” and the non-governmental organization Wind2win.
The cleaning of Arkutino beach is scheduled for December 26th at 10:00 a.m., and on December 27th at 10:00 a.m. volunteers will clean the coastal zone in the town of Ahtopol.
The organizers provide bags, gloves, music, and refreshments, inviting participants to join with a festive mood and a Christmas dress code. Pets are also welcome during the actions.
The motto of this year's campaign is “The deposit system brooks no delay.” With it, the organizers call for the introduction of a deposit system in Bulgaria as soon as possible, pointing out that this is a proven mechanism for reducing waste in the environment and increasing recycling.
According to the organizers, over 500 volunteers have participated in the previous editions of the volunteer initiative, and the total amount of collected waste exceeds 4200 kilograms.
The initiative is held annually in the days after Christmas with the idea that, after people delight their loved ones with gifts, they will also set aside time to care for nature and the Black Sea.
