The Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) is launching its next large-scale volunteer initiative to protect Egyptian vultures in the mountain region. This year's thirteenth consecutive campaign "Night Guard for Egyptian Vultures" will continue from August 7 to 31, 2025.

Specially trained volunteers will be on duty daily until sunset, with their main task being to observe nests and prevent risks such as accidental falling of young birds or unwanted human intervention. Last year's edition of the project reported an impressive 48% of successfully raised and fledged young vultures.

In addition to direct nest protection, volunteers will also assist in monitoring information stations and potentially rescuing injured birds. The initiative is being implemented with the financial support of the ELP program, in partnership with the Rewilding Rhodopes and Green Balkans organizations.
