Burgas mayor Dimitar Nikolov has marked the International Day of Older Persons with a message to the city's older residents on social media.
"Dear fellow citizens," the message begins. Nikolov says the day is a reminder of the respect, gratitude and care owed to people who have left their mark on the city and on society.
The life experience, work and wisdom of Burgas's older residents are part of the city's history, the mayor says. Beyond their homes and careers, they also helped shape the look of Burgas, and younger generations keep learning knowledge, values and life lessons from them.
Nikolov says the municipality maintains conditions for older people to live with dignity and stay active and fulfilled, including chances to socialise, join cultural and social events and take part in community life. "For Burgas municipality, caring for older people isn't just a duty — it's an ongoing responsibility," he writes.
In his wishes, the mayor lists health, peace of mind and more reasons to smile, along with attention from loved ones and respect from society, so older people feel their contribution is valued and remembered.
"May Burgas keep being a city where every generation has its rightful place," Nikolov says, closing his message.
