The Institute of Balkan Studies with a Center for Thracology at BAS (IBCT-BAS) is organizing a large-scale scientific conference today, dedicated to the digital transformation of cultural heritage. The forum is being held in the prestigious "Acad. Ivan Geshov" hall as part of the implementation of the National Roadmap for Scientific Infrastructure INFRAMAT.
The initiative receives financial support from the Ministry of Education and Science, with its main goal being to present contemporary challenges in preserving and promoting cultural heritage in the online space.
Among the key participants are international and Bulgarian experts from various scientific fields. Harry Verwayen, Director General of the Europeana Foundation, will present the European perspective on digital archives. Kiril Valchev from the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency will reveal strategies for digitizing media archives.
The scientific forum will bring together researchers from leading institutions such as the National Archaeological Institute, Sofia University, the Institute of Physicochemistry, and IBCT-BAS. Professors Rumyana Preshlenova and Vesela Tsakova will moderate the discussions and guide the expert panels.
The conference aims to outline the future horizons of digital cultural heritage, combining academic experience with technological innovations.
