Child surgeon Dr Rumen Hristov now sees patients under Bulgaria's national health fund at the "Heart and Brain" hospital in Burgas, the hospital says.
He holds appointments on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 4:30pm to 6pm, and patients need to book ahead by calling the hospital's front desk on +359-56-703-003.
For the health fund to cover the visit, parents need a referral marked with code 50 for pediatric surgery. Dr Hristov treats children from birth up to age 18.
Dr Hristov joined the hospital in March 2026, where he examines and operates on children. He graduated in medicine from Varna in 1989, holds specialties in general and pediatric surgery, and spent many years running the pediatric surgery unit in Varna.
He has practiced medicine for more than 37 years, 32 of them in pediatric surgery. He belongs to Bulgarian and European associations for pediatric surgery and works as a national consultant.
He treats congenital malformations in newborns, esophageal atresia, diaphragmatic hernias, severe injuries and complex surgical conditions.
The hospital says Dr Hristov's arrival is growing its pediatric surgery department, giving more children in the region access to specialist care.
