Burgas kindergartens ended healthy eating week today with a parade. Children dressed as fruit and vegetables walked along the main streets to the Sea Garden.

This follows our earlier story from the start of the week, when we reported that all municipal kindergartens in Burgas would join the campaign.

For five days, the children learned how different foods help them and why they should eat healthily. The aim is to make it a habit for life.

At the Valshebstvo kindergarten in Burgas, the children played a "search for health" game with a map, five stops, riddles and a "treasure" at the end.

On "Juicy Fruit Island" they found apples and bananas. In the "Vegetable Kingdom" they cut up peppers, cucumbers and iceberg lettuce and made a salad. In the "Grain World" they learned how to knead and roll homemade bread. At the "farm" they fed and milked a cow and found out where dairy products come from.

For each task they finished, they got a piece of a heart-shaped puzzle. The last piece carried a message: health is the most precious treasure, and caring for it starts with us.

Five-year-olds said foods are healthy because they contain vitamins and give strength. One child said that in the "shop" they and their classmates had made a salad with iceberg lettuce and cucumbers. Another said their favourite vegetables are cucumbers and tomatoes.

Teacher Galina Dakova said the children had searched for health in fruit, vegetables, carbohydrates, milk, eggs and water. "Together with them, we learned that health is a treasure we protect with healthy food, water, exercise and good habits," she told BNT.

Kindergarten head Tsvetana Hinkova said health lies not only in healthy food and habits, but also in kindness, a smile and the way people treat each other. That is why the puzzle is heart-shaped. A child's appeal to parents and the community reaches adults' hearts like nothing else, she said.

"Healthy eating is not a topic for one week in kindergarten," Hinkova told BNT.
