It is necessary for the state and municipalities to take adequate measures to analyze riverbeds and gullies. Otherwise, disasters like those that recently affected the southern Black Sea coast may be repeated. This was stated to media representatives by the mayor of Tsarevo, Marin Kirov, who attended the ceremony for announcing the results and awarding prizes in the thirteenth edition of the national competition "Mayor of the Year" 2025.

According to the mayor, in urbanized areas, rivers do not originate, but come from the Strandzha Mountain. This suggests the need for significant construction work to deepen these riverbeds. "And until this happens, there is absolutely no guarantee that similar floods will not be repeated," Kirov emphasized.

He informed that since 2:00 a.m. tonight, teams have been working on site, coordinated by the operational headquarters under the leadership of the Municipality and the relevant institutions. "We have local floods in the village of Lozenets and at the "Nestinarka" campsite," Kirov specified. According to him, this time it is noticeable that the flooded area originates from the national road network. Currently, the rivers and gullies are still managing to absorb the water inflow. "The prevention that we carried out over the previous three days was to unclog all the riverbeds that were blocked on October 3, and I think this is yielding results," the mayor stated. He added that at the moment there are no evacuees, no casualties, and no injured people. "At the moment, the rain is starting to stop, so we will monitor the situation during the day," said the mayor of Tsarevo.

Kirov noted that the regional administration is responsible for cleaning state territories, but despite the lack of a budget, it has been carrying out such activities. "This time, the disaster we are observing poses a much more serious question," he commented. Namely, that the flooding comes from areas outside the urbanized territories, from dry gullies, from rivers that have no source. Therefore, "we have requested assistance from the Ministry of Environment to appoint a commission to investigate all the causes of the disaster," Kirov added.

The mayor recalled that when building the three bridges that collapsed during the previous flood, and are now healthy and intact, it was clear that without building a concrete riverbed, such cases would be repeated. "Two years later we saw that it was repeated," he said. Kirov emphasized that Tsarevo Municipality has submitted the documents to the interdepartmental commission for disasters and accidents three times. He expressed hope that this time the projects for the correction of the Municipality's riverbeds will be approved.
