Ballots for the presidential election are due in Burgas today, 16 October, from a printing house in Sofia, said Fani Semerdzhieva, deputy chair of the Burgas regional election commission. Heavily reinforced police guard is escorting the delivery.
All 751 polling stations in Burgas's 2nd electoral district, including those that will use voting machines, will get paper ballots. The commission receives the rolls and ballots, which then go to a temporary store at the regional administration, as is usual. From there, the ballots will go to each of the 13 municipalities in the region.
"The Central Election Commission is responsible for the paper," Semerdzhieva told Bulgarian National Radio. The regional commission does not yet know when the rest of the election papers will arrive.
The voting machines have not yet been brought to Burgas. They will be used at 494 polling stations in the region. Stations with fewer than 300 voters will vote on paper, and some of the larger ones will have two machines each. If a machine breaks down, voting goes on with paper ballots, the regional commission said.
Polling station commissions in Burgas and the region will receive the machines and ballots on the day of reflection, the day before the vote. Police will seal the polling rooms once the commissions accept the materials.
