Burgas municipal company Burgaski Pazari wants to rent out the former Krasnodar RUM in the city for 10 years, through a public auction with open bidding. Manager Donka Hristova has sent a report to the municipal council, which must now consider it.
The space is on the second floor of a building on Tsar Kaloyan Street in the wider city centre. It covers 2,106 sq m and is meant for retail.
Rent starts at €4,050 a month, excluding VAT. Bids rise in steps of €405, and everyone who takes part must pay a €12,150 deposit.
Burgaski Pazari says the property is empty, but it needs to be repaired and adapted for its new use.
The tenant must pay for the repairs, the adaptation and regular upkeep. The cost will not be deducted from the rent, and the company will not pay it back.
Under the report, the tenant may not have to pay monthly rent for up to six months after signing the contract, while building work goes on. During that time, the tenant must still pay the running costs of the property.
The Krasnodar RUM (a district universal store) opened in 1978 and was the first of its kind in Burgas. It dates from the time when RUMs were a main part of the retail network in Bulgaria's big cities. Today the property is part of Burgaski Pazari's capital.
