Burgas wins bid to host global forum
Burgas is strengthening its status as an international center for science and education, having been officially selected to host the 25th International Geography Olympiad (iGeo) in the summer of 2029. The decision was made following a secret ballot by the Executive Committee in Istanbul.
"Burgas once again proves that it can host world-scale events," stated Mayor Dimitar Nikolov.
A success for Bulgarian science and education
Bulgaria's candidacy is the result of the joint efforts of:
- The Faculty of Geology and Geography at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski";
- Burgas Municipality;
- The Ministry of Education and Science;
- The National Association of Olympiad Teams in Natural Sciences.
The initiative was launched thanks to Assoc. Prof. Dimitar Zhelev and Assoc. Prof. Kaloyan Tsvetkov. Hosting in 2029 is symbolic, as it coincides with the 25th anniversary of Bulgaria's first participation in the Olympiad and the conclusion of the "Geodecade 2020-2029" initiative.
