On the eve of September 15th, the Municipality of Burgas has finalized a large-scale program to upgrade educational infrastructure, aiming to provide a modern and safe environment for over 25,769 students. Among them, 1,947 first-graders will cross the school threshold for the first time in municipal facilities that underwent major renovations and expansions this past summer.
Significant infrastructure improvements have been implemented in several neighborhoods:
- In the "Kraymorie" neighborhood, the new building for the "Al. G. Kodzhakafaliyata" Primary School is ready to welcome students, equipped with a STEM center, swimming pool, gymnasium, medical and speech therapy office, 8 classrooms, specialized subject rooms, and outdoor activity spaces.
- In the "Sarafovo" neighborhood, a new wing of the "Alen Mak" Kindergarten has been built, providing 50 spots for children aged 3 to 7.
- In the "Pobeda" neighborhood, a branch of the "Nadezhda" Kindergarten is now operational, offering fully renovated facilities with a capacity for 50 children across two age groups.
- In the "Vetren" neighborhood, the Municipality has secured a plot of land for the construction of a future kindergarten.
- In the "Banevo" neighborhood, the "Ivan Vazov" Primary School is being modernized under the innovative RE-SKIN project, which includes the installation of a photovoltaic-thermal roof, heat pumps, eco-friendly insulation, and intelligent energy management.
A new building has been completed at the "Vasil Aprilov" Primary School featuring 104 study spaces, a lecture hall for 116 people, and areas for foreign language learning, culture, arts, and extracurricular activities—a key step toward transitioning to a single-shift schedule. At the Vocational High School of Computer Programming and Innovation (PGKPI), a new Center for Excellence in "Computer Sciences" has been established, equipped with modern server infrastructure for training in artificial intelligence and robotics. The center will also create additional opportunities for partnerships with businesses and universities. The "Yuriy Gagarin" Sports School has also been renovated with a focus on energy efficiency, including the replacement of windows, façade, plumbing, and electrical installations.
The network for the youngest children is also expanding through the opening of a new nursery group at the "Chayka" Kindergarten, an additional class at the "Lyuben Karavelov" Primary School, and an upcoming expansion of the "Proletna Daga" Kindergarten in the village of Marinka. Alongside school facilities, Burgas is also developing university education through its branches:
- The Burgas Free University welcomes the new academic year with nearly 4,200 students and new programs such as "Maritime Law" and drone management.
- The branch of the National Academy of Art is developing specializations such as "Art Glass – Stained Glass" and the preservation of underwater heritage.
- Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" is expanding its curriculum with new majors, including Korean language.
- The branches of the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFIZ) "Krastyo Sarafov" and the National Academy of Music "Prof. Pancho Vladiguerov" are also actively operating, with the opening of a branch of the University of Forestry expected soon.
At the end of the preparations, the Municipality of Burgas has instructed the directors of all educational institutions to conduct final inspections to ensure the safety of students in the renovated environment, covering the entire spectrum from kindergarten to higher education.
