The seaside city of Burgas is becoming an epicenter of health prevention with a large-scale initiative for early diagnosis of oncological diseases in women. The campaign, organized by the Women Motorcyclists Association MPowered Bulgaria and the Bulgarian Society for Breast Cancer Control, will be held on August 14 and 15 with the ambitious goal of reaching as many women as possible.
A key moment in the initiative is the creation of three special locations for free medical examinations, which will cover different areas of the city. The first point is at DCC 1 Burgas on Stefan Stambolov Boulevard 73, where the lead doctor will be Dr. Mariela Vasileva – chairman of the Bulgarian Society for Breast Cancer Control.
The second examination station will be at UMBAL "Deva Maria" in the Vetren neighborhood, where Dr. Tinka Arnaudova will receive patients. The third location is at DCC "El-Masry" with the participation of Dr. Adam Hadjimehmed as a volunteer in the campaign.
A symbolic highlight of the initiative will be illuminating the city bridge in pink – a color traditionally associated with solidarity with women going through challenges related to oncological diseases. This gesture by the Burgas Municipality emphasizes the public importance of preventive examinations.
The campaign's statistics so far are impressive – 849 free preventive examinations have been conducted in various Bulgarian cities, including Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, and others. The initiative is being held for the sixth consecutive time with the clear message "Pass it on".
The Health Insurance Fund supports the initiative by providing free examinations for women between 30 and 50 years old with ultrasound and women between 45 and 75 years old with mammography. Examinations are performed every two years for the age group up to 69 years and once every three years for women over 70 years.
The organizers call on all healthy women to be proactive and share the information with loved ones – mothers, sisters, friends. The message is clear: prevention can be life-saving, and the examination takes only minutes.
A special website has been created for additional information and those wishing to join as volunteer medical professionals: www.bbca.bg/join. The campaign continues to seek like-minded individuals and active participants in the fight against breast cancer.
