Bulgartransgaz participates in the construction of a digital corridor between Asia and Europe: The "Cardesa" Project

Bulgartransgaz is involved in the strategic digital connectivity project "Cardesa", part of the Digital Silk Road. The project will transform Bulgaria into a key point for connecting Europe and Asia, through a new underwater telecommunications system. The investment, exceeding 100 million euros, will strengthen cybersecurity and bring economic benefits to the country.

Bulgartransgaz EAD will participate in the realization of a digital corridor between Asia and Europe, the company announced. The key project “Kardesa” includes the construction of a new underwater telecommunications system across the Black Sea, connecting Bulgaria and Georgia, with branches to Turkey and a planned branch to Ukraine.

The Executive Director of “Bulgartransgaz” EAD, Vladimir Malinov, emphasized that the Bulgarian company will not invest additional financial resources, but will use existing assets, by providing a constructed route. Leading international companies such as “Vodafone” (Vodafon), “Deutsche Telekom” and NEQSOL Holding are participating in the project. The total investment volume exceeds 100 million euros, and the contractor is the international company “Xtera” (Xtera).

The “Kardesa” project will start in 2027. It will strengthen the diversification and sovereignty of data, increase cybersecurity, and position Bulgaria as a digital hub. The benefits for the country include attracting investments, creating high-tech jobs, and strengthening digital sovereignty.

In Bulgaria, the company “Novatel” will build the infrastructure in the Aheloy area and two optical routes to Sofia. “Bulgartransgaz” will provide an available pipe and terrain in compressor stations.
