The Prosecutors' College of the Supreme Judicial Council is meeting today for a regular session, and personnel issues in the prosecutor's office are expected to be in focus once again. According to media reports, Borislav Sarafov has resigned as Director of the "National Investigation Service", which will likely be included as an extraordinary item on the agenda.

By law, the head of the investigation service is also a Deputy Prosecutor General, which makes the potential dismissal of Sarafov a key decision for the structure of the state prosecution. The members of the Prosecutors' College are expected to discuss the submitted resignation and reach a decision on it.

A few days ago, Minister of Justice "Nikolay Naydenov" publicly stated that, in his opinion, Borislav Sarafov should step down from his post voluntarily. The reason for his position was the Supreme Judicial Council's refusal to initiate disciplinary proceedings against the Director of the National Investigation Service.

The minister's statement was interpreted as a clear political and institutional signal that pressure for change in the leadership of the investigation service remains, regardless of the SJC's decision on the disciplinary case. In this context, the potential resignation of Sarafov is seen as a logical next step.

It is expected that during the meeting it will become clear whether and when the resignation will be officially reviewed, as well as what the next steps for selecting his successor will be. The outcome will have a direct impact on the work of the "National Investigation Service" and on the balance within the leadership of the prosecutor's office.
