Burgas Unites for a Cause of Hope: Charity Concert “A Chance for Nikola”
BURGAS – The Summer Theater in Burgas will become a stage of compassion and support on September 15, 2025, precisely at 7:00 PM, when a special charity concert will be held under the motto “A Chance for Nikola.” The initiative, which goes beyond the scope of a typical cultural event, aims to unite the community in the name of a noble cause: raising funds for a life-saving operation for a boy, Nikola.
The event, which the organizers describe as
_a celebration of hope, love, and faith_, aims to show that even in the most difficult moments, united efforts can work miracles. The Summer Theater is expected to be filled with people ready to show their solidarity. Although music and dance will be the center of attention, the true focus will be on the mission – to ensure a future for Nikola.
Nikola's Battle: A Rare Disease and Insurmountable Costs
Nikola's story begins with a rare disease – femoral deficiency type 1A. In 2019, at just four years old, he underwent his first operation at the Paley Institute in the USA, where an internal fixator was placed to lengthen the bone. The operation was followed by 12 weeks of intensive physical therapy at the same clinic, which led to complete success – in 2020, his legs were equalized, and the fixator was removed.
Unfortunately, Nikola's struggle does not end there. In May 2025, during a follow-up examination in Poland with the world-renowned Dr. Paley, it was found that the difference in leg length was beginning to increase again. To avoid serious joint wear, a new leg lengthening of 4.5 cm is necessary, which should be performed at the end of the year. A date for the operation has been set – December 10, 2025, when an internal PRECICE NAIL fixator will be placed, followed by an eight-week recovery period with physical therapy. In 2026, the device will be removed.
The sum required for the operation is $87,000, which does not include the costs for the future removal of the fixator in 2026. This sum is
_insurmountable for our family_, the boy's relatives share.
The Healthcare System and Hope
The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) has refused to pay for the operation, arguing that the procedure can also be performed in Bulgaria, offering an alternative method. However, this position is in direct contrast with the opinion of Dr. Paley, who is recognized as one of the best pediatric surgeons in the field of limb lengthening and amputation prevention. According to him, the most suitable and gentle method for Nikola's case is precisely the PRECICE NAIL, the same internal intramedullary fixator used in the first successful operation.
Despite the institutional obstacles, the family and the concert organizers believe that good is stronger when people unite. The tickets for the concert are seen not just as an entry but as
_a step toward hope_, and every presence and donation as
_a stride toward his health and independence_.
All who wish to support Nikola can do so through a donation campaign. One of the options is to send an SMS with the text DMS NIKOLA to number 17 777. Other ways to support include:
- donations through the donation buttons on the dmsbg.com platform
- bank transfer to the donation account of Nikola Petkov Dimov at DSK Bank with BIC/SWIFT: STSABGSF and IBAN: BG67STSA93000031955437
- donations via PayPal and Revolut
The organizers urge all residents and guests of Burgas to join the cause, to turn the evening of September 15 into
_a symbol of kindness and support_, and to help a wonderful boy get his chance for a normal and full life.
