Burgas will offer free health checks outdoors on September 29, World Heart Day, the city council says. A mobile health point with tents will be set up in the garden by the Clock Tower from 2pm to 5:30pm.
Staff on site will check blood pressure and run electrocardiograms. Specialists from Burgas regional health inspection will also bring a body fat analyzer that shows fat ratio, body mass index and calorie needs.
Cardiologists will be on hand to talk to visitors, answer questions and point them in the right direction. The focus is on prevention, better health and quality of life. Doctors taking part include Dr. Stamen Pishev, head of the Young Doctors association, and Dr. Diyan Gospodinov, its executive director.
Children and adults are welcome, whether they live in Burgas or are just visiting. This year's motto is "With love for every heart!"
The city council is running the event together with the Young Doctors association in Burgas, the regional health inspection, the Burgas branch of the Bulgarian Union of Medical Specialists, the Union of Paramedics in Bulgaria and the home social care service.
The aim is to help prevent heart disease, the city council says. Doctors say a healthy heart needs less stress, better eating habits, exercise and regular check-ups.
Obesity is one of the causes of heart disease. At the health point, staff will talk about changing habits, the effects of bad habits, and how children and adults can lose weight.
