Specialists will give a free talk on nutrition during cancer treatment in Burgas on Saturday, 24 October. It starts at 2pm in Hall 2 of the Flora Burgas Expo Centre in the Sea Garden. The foundation "Edna ot 8" (One in 8) is organising it.
Entry is free, but people must register in advance.
The speakers are medical oncologist Assoc Prof Dr Asya Konsulova and nutrition and dietetics specialist Prof Dr Darina Naydenova Hristova. Konsulova chairs the board of the Joint Oncology National Network. Naydenova Hristova heads the National Association "Practical Dietetics and Integrative Medicine".
The talk is for people on cancer treatment and their families. They can put questions to the doctors and raise their own worries about the treatment.
The speakers will cover the risk of malnutrition during treatment, foods that are best dropped from the menu, and when food supplements are suitable. They will pay special attention to common myths about eating with cancer.
The organisers say extreme diets and unchecked advice from people who are not specialists can lead to a lack of important nutrients, weight loss and poorer general health. They advise that food choices during treatment should rest on medical evidence, be prescribed by a doctor and suit the individual patient. The aim is to help patients and their families find their way through plentiful and at times conflicting information on the subject.
The talks are part of the campaign "How should we eat during cancer treatment?", which began in spring 2026 and drew wide interest. "The interest in the spring meetings showed how great the need is for accessible and reliable information on the subject," said Gergana Bogdanova, manager of the "Edna ot 8" foundation.
She said patients worry a great deal about food during treatment, but "unfortunately, it is in this very area that many myths and unchecked tips spread". That is why the foundation is continuing the campaign, to reach more people in different parts of the country.
The autumn series covers three cities. The first talk is in Varna on 18 October at 11am in the Hotel Cherno More, with the same two speakers. The last is in Ruse on 14 November.
