The digital transformation of Bulgarian railway infrastructure is gaining momentum with the introduction of free wireless internet in seven strategic railway nodes. The press center of National Railway Infrastructure Company (NRIC) officially announced the start of a large-scale communication project.

The modern technological solution covers key transport centers, including the capital's central station, nodes in Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Burgas, Gorna Oryahovitsa, Ruse, and Varna. The innovative initiative aims to significantly improve passenger comfort during their travel.

The company's strategic plan provides for full coverage with free internet in all railway stations by the end of 2026. The approach follows established European practices, where similar communication services have become a standard in public transport.

NRIC's statistical data reveals the scale of the project: in the past year alone, Central Station Sofia served 3.5 million passengers, while the Plovdiv railway node received 2 million. The total annual traffic of the seven stations reaches an impressive 9.5 million passengers who will now have free internet connectivity.

At the end of March this year, the company took an additional step by signing a contract to restore the specialized communication system in the railway sector, which further reinforces its modernization intentions.
