Belitsa has no acting mayor a day after the GDBOP organised crime unit and the DANS state security agency detained Mayor Radoslav Revanski. The town hall is working as normal and receiving residents, deputy mayor Iglika Avramova said.
No acting mayor was named during the whole working day. A decision is still to come.
How it all started: DPS to alert European institutions over detention of three of its mayors
The mayors of Sungurlare, Belitsa and Kardzhali were detained on three days in a row, one each day. The DPS party said that because of this it will alert European institutions and all judicial bodies.
Avramova is in charge of EU programmes and finances at Belitsa council. In the afternoon she told BNT: "We have not been called in for questioning, and not a single document has been seized." She added that documents may have been taken from the mayor's office.
Staff were under stress yesterday, she said, but the GDBOP and DANS investigators were not rude to them. Today there is no tension among council staff or among residents.
Belitsa has many projects, and the responsible authorities check all of them regularly, Avramova said. As far as she knows, the contracts being investigated belong to another municipality, not Belitsa.
She is not sure the large number of projects is a good thing. "But it is exhausting work, and we come in on Saturday and Sunday, and by the end of yesterday we could hardly breathe," she told BNT.
