Burgas Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov University will create 12 new courses and 133 new digital topics and resources for students of electrical engineering, electronics and automation, the university said. It is a partner in a project that aims to make engineering education fit better with what employers need.
Under the project, 234 study programmes will be updated, and the teams will draw up 6 competence profiles. Students will also be trained in digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
The project, numbered BG05SFPR001-3.006-0026-C01, covers professional field 5.2, "Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Automation". It is funded under the Education Programme 2021-2027, procedure BG05SFPR001-3.006 "Modernisation of Higher Education Institutions 2.0". The Technical University of Sofia leads it. The University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy and the Confederation of Employers and Industrialists in Bulgaria (KRIB) are also taking part, along with the Burgas university.
Six programmes from the Burgas university are involved: two master's, two bachelor's and two at "professional bachelor" level.
The partner universities will share academic expertise. Lecturers from the Burgas university will teach students from the Technical University of Sofia and the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy in two subjects: "Intelligent Sensor Systems" and "Diagnostics and Control of Automotive Systems".
"Engineering degrees must develop together with technology and business," said the university's rector, Prof. Dr. Sotir Sotirov. He said the project is another step in the university's push for modern, hands-on teaching, and that students will gain skills that are in demand in the jobs of the future.
Assoc. Prof. Ivaylo Belovski, deputy dean of the Faculty of Technical Sciences, is the project coordinator for the university. "The project will let us build on our course content with more practical and digital elements," he said. Belovski said students will get knowledge directly linked to modern engineering practice.
