An unprecedented cross-border cultural initiative was officially presented on July 26, 2025, during an off-site session of the National Assembly in Sozopol. The project unites Bulgaria, Greece, and Turkey in an ambitious endeavor to rethink the regional tourism potential.
The strategic collaboration includes a network of museums, cultural institutions, and non-governmental organizations that will develop joint routes focusing on common historical and cultural memory. The main emphasis is placed on integrating various historical monuments – Byzantine ruins, medieval fortresses, and Ottoman architectural landmarks.
Parallel to the cultural project, experts are discussing substantial legislative changes in the Tourism Act. The plan is to expand municipal powers in managing local infrastructure and budget resources, which will create a more flexible tourism model.
The main goal of the initiative is to overcome the seasonal tourism model and attract visitors outside the classic summer period. Through innovative routes and an integrated approach, the three countries aim to position the Balkan region as an attractive year-round destination.
