An innovative Bulgarian documentary project "Ahab Was Here" will debut at a prestigious American film festival, revealing the creative processes behind the classic staging of "Moby Dick".

The documentary film by director Todor Tosh Lichev will make its American premiere on July 26, 2025 at San Antonio Film Festival. The film, which explores the behind-the-scenes world of theatrical art, will be presented at Radius Center and attracts significant international interest.

The creative project focuses on the rehearsal process of the "Moby Dick" production at the Ivan Vazov National Theater, presenting the emotional and professional dynamics of leading Bulgarian actors. Among the main characters are Vladimir Penev, Yavor Karagitliev, and Mira Kalanova, whose personal stories shape the narrative of the documentary research.

The film's acceptance by the festival's programming committee is considered a significant recognition for Bulgarian documentary filmmaking. It is expected to achieve international recognition before its official Bulgarian premiere in November during the "Night of Theaters".
