Reviews on Bulgaria's accession have been completed in 17 of the 25 committees of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolay Pavlov announced at a discussion dedicated to the priorities of the Cypriot presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), which began on January 1, 2026.

The third year of the actual work on the country's accession process has passed. The final phase really remains. For it, we will need stability, a working National Assembly, where a number of bills can be adopted, Pavlov also said.

Accession to the OECD is a priority for the government, Nikolay Pavlov also stated.

The OECD was established in 1961 with the aim of stimulating policies for sustainable economic development, raising the standard of living of the population and maintaining financial stability. This is stated on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is the successor to the Organisation for European Economic Co-operation, created to manage American and Canadian financial aid (the so-called 'Marshall Plan') for the reconstruction of Europe after World War II.
