Bulgaria has put forward a follow-up plan and closer cooperation between the two countries' border services, deputy minister Miltenov said. He met Poland's deputy secretary of state at the interior and administration ministry, Maciej Duszczyk, in Luxembourg during a meeting of the Justice and Home Affairs Council.

Bulgaria proposed next steps in several areas: border security, drone defence, illegal migration and migrant smuggling, organised crime, resilience, and protection of critical infrastructure.

"Bulgaria and Poland play a key role in guarding the EU's external borders," Miltenov said.

The two also discussed the fight against organised crime, especially drug trafficking, migrant smuggling and cybercrime. Work on EMPACT priorities lays the ground for closer operational cooperation between the two countries, Miltenov said.

Both sides praised Polish police officers who joined joint summer patrols on Bulgaria's Black Sea coast to help keep order.
