Assen Vassilev on the new draft budget: The same philosophy as the withdrawn one, reduces funding for health and education

Assen Vassilev from PP-DB commented on the draft budget for 2026, noting a decrease in funds for healthcare, education, sports and culture, along with an increase in social security contributions. According to him, this is a course towards increasing taxes and redistribution, at the expense of investments in key areas.

The chairman of "We Continue the Change" Asen Vasilev expressed criticism of the new draft budget for 2026, noting that it repeats the philosophy of the withdrawn budget. Vasilev emphasized that despite the planned reduction in healthcare funding in 2027 compared to 2026, along with a reduction in money for education, sports, culture, and science, an increase in social security contributions is planned for 2027 and 2028.

According to Vasilev, this is a postponement of the increase in taxes, which will be accompanied by a reduction in investments in key areas. He also criticized the growth of redistribution, which exceeds 40% of GDP, which, according to him, shows the government's intention to increase taxes and take more money from working people. Vasilev added that the money is not being used for education, healthcare, sports, culture, or science.

Vasilev concluded that the government is showing an inability to govern, setting wrong priorities, and called for resignation.
