Artists and organizations from four continents have contributed proposals for the cultural program of Burgas' candidacy for European Capital of Culture in 2032. Nearly 250 conceptual projects were collected through the open call "Magazia’32 – Repository of Ideas," announced by the "Burgas-2032" Foundation.
The procedure for soliciting creative and artistic concepts, educational initiatives, partnership formats, and community projects met with exceptionally high interest. The goal is for these ideas to become part of the future cultural program with which Burgas, supported by the entire region, will compete for the prestigious title of European Capital of Culture 2032.
Proposals and inspiring messages were sent by cultural institutions from Burgas, numerous independent artists, creative spaces, and representatives of the creative sector from the region and the entire country. They were joined by over 45 international projects from countries such as Sweden, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Hungary, Kenya, Brazil, the USA, and others.
The organizers thank all participants for the interest shown and for their desire to contribute to the "Burgas 2032" cause. The "Burgas-2032" Foundation emphasizes that the open call has provided a strong start to the actual stage of developing the candidacy, in the spirit of seeking the widest possible public participation and stimulating creative energy in the city and the region.
The "Magazia’32 – Repository of Ideas" procedure started on February 10, 2026. Within its framework, a series of discussions and creative workshops were organized, gathering hundreds of people eager to contribute ideas for the cultural future of Burgas as a potential European Capital of Culture.
A working group is to be formed, which will review in detail all submitted projects and prepare a priority list of the conceptual proposals. It will include those that best meet the strategic needs and the vision for the development of Burgas' candidacy at this stage.
