Inspection at Kozloduy NPP due to record low water levels of the Danube
Minister of Energy Iva Petrova visited Kozloduy NPP to get acquainted on-site with the measures for the plant's operation under the conditions of critically low levels of the Danube River. The visit was also attended by experts from the Ministry of Energy, as well as representatives of BEH and the Electricity System Operator.
At the moment, no significant reduction in the nuclear power plant's capacity is expected, as the water resource is sufficient for the normal functioning of the pumping facilities.
Is electricity production secured?
- Current river levels are sufficient for the operation of the pumps.
- Water resources are available for at least three weeks ahead, even if levels continue to drop.
- The plant continues to operate according to energy security plans.
The situation on the Danube River has already caused difficulties for the operation of Paks NPP (Hungary) and Cernavodă NPP (Romania). Experts warn that the continuing decline in river levels could impact the stability of the energy market in the region.
