A 2026 survey by the European Investment Bank (EIB), released this week, shows that 77% of Bulgarians expect the shift to clean energy to keep energy prices stable or bring them down.

Nearly 69% of those surveyed in Bulgaria say the shift is urgently needed. Some 74% want less dependence on imported oil and natural gas, and 66% expect the change to slow climate change.

Closer cooperation with other EU countries has the backing of 80% of Bulgarians. Another 65% want member states to pool money for investment in the shift.

Ipsos and BVA polled 23,000 people in all 27 EU countries between 3 and 25 August 2026. In Bulgaria, they polled 1,000.
