A 66-year-old driver from the village of Gradets died in a crash on Aleksandar Stamboliyski Street in Burgas on Friday, 9 October, Burgas regional police said.

The crash happened at about 10:26am near No. 59. The man was driving a Ford Transit van with Burgas plates and was alone in the vehicle.

Police say that, according to initial information, he lost control and the van left its lane. It hit a concrete electricity pole, then the reinforced concrete fence of a private house.

Damage is put at €2,000. Police have not said whether he died from injuries in the crash or from a health problem that began before it. Pre-trial proceedings have been opened.

A second crash, unrelated to the first, happened at about 12:05pm, an hour and a half later. At km 84 of the Aytos–Provadia road, in Ruen municipality, a 57-year-old man from Aytos crashed alone. He was driving a Seat Altea with Burgas plates.

Police say his speed was not suited to the conditions. He lost control and drove the car into a roadside embankment. Police report no other people involved, no other injuries and no damaged property.

The man has a fracture of the neck vertebrae and was taken to the Heart and Brain hospital. His life is not in immediate danger, police said, citing medical information.
