A 63-year-old Ukrainian man has drowned in the sea near Sunny Beach, close to the "Dun" hotel, according to the Burgas police. The incident occurred while the man was swimming between lifeguard stations No. 18 and No. 19. He was vacationing at the resort.
The report was received by the Nesebar District Police Department on Friday around 10:37 AM. After the body was recovered from the sea, it was transported to the Forensic Medicine department at UMBAL - Burgas. An autopsy is pending to determine the exact cause of death. The police have not reported any other casualties in connection with the case, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal drowning are ongoing.
The Sunny Beach area has already been the scene of several serious maritime incidents this summer. In August, a 75-year-old Romanian woman drowned near lifeguard station No. 17, and days later, a 44-year-old Polish man lost his life in front of the "Glarus" hotel. In both cases, the police reported that the bodies were sent to UMBAL - Burgas for autopsy.
The area around the "Dun" hotel has also appeared in previous reports of fatal sea accidents. According to the police information bulletin, on August 28, 2025, a 58-year-old Romanian tourist died in the vicinity of lifeguard station No. 18. In August 2026, another death was reported near the same hotel, involving a Romanian tourist.
