Teams from the Air Emergency Medical Center have flown 370 missions since the system started in June 2024, the center said on Facebook. This year alone, they have carried out 204 missions.
Of those flights, 285 were transfers between hospitals. The other 85 were primary missions, where the helicopter picks up a patient at the scene of an accident and flies them to a hospital that can give the right care.
Patients flown so far range from a one-month-old baby, the youngest so far, to a 92-year-old.
Most patients flown by helicopter have severe injuries, heart problems, multiple injuries or organ failure. These are caused by car crashes, falls from height, workplace accidents and other incidents.
The teams said coordination has worked well. They thanked Bulgaria Heli Med Service, the National 112 Emergency Number System, the Mountain Rescue Service, emergency medical centers, hospitals and everyone else involved in the missions.
