On June 22, the weather in Bulgaria will maintain its typical summer character – plenty of sunshine, high daytime temperatures, and only in isolated places an increase in cloudiness in the afternoon. The June heat is gradually becoming more noticeable, but the sea remains relatively calm and attractive for the beach.
Weather in Burgas and the region
In Burgas on June 22, mostly sunny weather is expected, with pleasant, not extreme heat. In the morning, temperatures will be around 19°C, and in the afternoon, the maximum values will reach about 26–28°C. The day will be predominantly clear, with isolated decorative clouds in the afternoon, without any significant risk of precipitation.
According to short-term forecasts for Burgas, the probability of rain remains very low – about 2–10%, with the day for the region expected to be dry and sunny. The UV index will be high, especially in the hours around noon and early afternoon, so it is recommended to use sun protection and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight between 11:00 and 16:00.
The wind along the coast will be light to moderate, most often from the east-northeast. In the city, its speed during the day will be about 3–5 m/s, and in open areas of the coast, it may increase to about 6–8 m/s, which will bring a slightly refreshing feeling by the sea without creating serious problems for swimming.
The seawater temperature near Burgas for June 22 will be around 22–23°C. The sheltered Bay of Burgas traditionally keeps the water slightly warmer compared to the open northern sections of the Black Sea. The sea state will be slight – about 1–2 degrees, with no tendency for a sharp increase during the day.
With the combination of warm air, pleasant seawater temperature, light to moderate wind, and a low probability of precipitation, the preliminary assessment for bathing conditions on the Burgas beaches on June 22 is a green flag. The sea will be suitable for swimming and water sports, including for less experienced swimmers, though it is always recommended to follow the instructions of the lifeguards.
Weather conditions in the country
Sofia and the region
In Sofia and the surrounding areas, June 22 will be a typical early summer day. Minimum temperatures in the morning will be around 16–17°C, and maximums during the day will reach 27–29°C. Until noon, the weather will be mostly sunny, with good visibility and light air circulation.
In the afternoon, cumulus clouds will appear over the mountains west of the capital, with a low to moderate probability – about 20–30% – for short-term local showers with thunderstorms, mainly in mountainous areas. In Sofia itself, the probability of rain is lower. The wind will be light, mostly from the northwest or west, with speeds of about 2–4 m/s, which will ensure comfortable conditions for walks and outdoor activities.
Eastern and Western Bulgaria
In Western Bulgaria (Northwest, Southwest, and central western regions), the day will begin with a sunny sky and rapidly rising temperatures. Maximum values in cities like Vidin, Montana, Pleven, Vratsa, Kyustendil, and Blagoevgrad will be between 28 and 31°C. In the afternoon, cumulus clouds will develop, and in isolated places, short-term rain with thunderstorms is possible, but the phenomena will be local in nature.
In Eastern Bulgaria (Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Sliven, Yambol, Shumen, Razgrad, Dobrich), the weather will be even more stable. Maximum temperatures will reach 29–32°C, and the probability of precipitation is low – about 10–20%, mainly for short showers near mountain massifs. The wind will be light to moderate, most often from the east-northeast, with speeds of about 4–6 m/s.
In the interior of the country, although there is no sea bathing, caution is recommended when using reservoirs and rivers, as the water there can still be cooler and pose dangers related to currents and depths.
Weather in the mountains
In the mountainous regions, June 22 will be a suitable day for tourism, especially in the first half of the day. At an altitude of about 1200 m, maximum temperatures will reach about 18–20°C, and at about 2000 m – about 11–13°C. The morning will see a predominantly sunny sky, with good visibility and pleasant conditions for hiking.
In the afternoon, however, cumulus, and in places cumulo-nimbus clouds will develop, with a probability of about 40–50% for short-term showers and thunderstorms over Rila, Pirin, Stara Planina, and parts of the Rhodope Mountains. The wind along the ridges will be moderate, from the north or northwest, with speeds of about 5–8 m/s, with gusts of up to 10–12 m/s in the most exposed parts. Swimming in mountain lakes is not recommended due to low water temperatures and health risks.
Black Sea coast
Along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, June 22 will be a mostly sunny and pleasant day for the beach. In the northern part (Varna, Balchik, Kavarna, Shabla), maximum temperatures will be around 25–27°C, and morning minimums – around 17–19°C. In the southern part, including the area of Burgas, Nesebar, Sozopol, Primorsko, and Tsarevo, maximum temperatures will reach 26–28°C, with minimums around 18–20°C.
The seawater temperature will be around 21–23°C along the northern coast and around 22–23°C along the southern one. The sea state will remain slight – about 1–2 degrees, which creates very good conditions for swimming and water sports. The wind will be light to moderate from the east-northeast, with speeds of about 4–7 m/s, with a slight increase in the afternoon along more exposed beach strips.
The probability of precipitation along the coast is low – about 10–20%, and if short showers appear, they will be local and short-lived, more in the interior than over the beaches themselves. Overall, the conditions for swimming along the Black Sea coast, including in the area of Burgas, can be assessed as favorable – a prevailing green flag is expected on guarded beaches.
Tourists are encouraged to monitor flag signals and lifeguard instructions and to use sun protection, especially in the middle of the day, when the UV index is high.
