12,451 farmers who grew sunflowers and maize will get compensation for damage caused by drought and heatwaves in 2025, after agriculture minister Plamen Abrovski signed an order setting the payment rates.
The total pot is 22.2 million euros, working out at 17.46 euros per hectare. The European Agricultural Guarantee Fund is putting in 7.4 million euros, with another 14.8 million euros coming from Bulgaria's national budget.
The payments are meant to cover the income farmers lost when sunflower yields fell and maize crops were damaged by the bad weather in 2025.
The State Fund Agriculture must pay out the money by 30 September 2026 at the latest.
