Firefighters in Bulgaria put out 101 fires in the past 24 hours, the General Directorate for Fire Safety and Civil Protection says. Crews took 156 emergency calls in all. No one was hurt or killed.
Twenty of the fires caused damage. Six broke out in homes, three in vehicles, four in sheds and other flimsy outbuildings, and three at other sites. One fire each hit a factory building, a forest, farmland and outdoor equipment.
The other 81 fires caused no damage. Dry grass, forest litter and bushes burned in 49 of them, rubbish in 22, stubble fields in three, and cookers and chimneys in another three. Four fell into other categories.
Crews also answered 48 calls for rescue and other help, including traffic accidents, industrial accidents and technical assistance. Seven calls during the day turned out to be false alarms.
